ITE has developed a comprehensive action plan to support the implementation of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), 11th Edition. The goal of this action plan is to provide a roadmap of resources and activities that will empower ITE members to smoothly transition to the updated MUTCD standards.

The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways —the MUTCD— defines the standards used by road managers nationwide to install and maintain traffic control devices on all streets, highways, pedestrian and bicycle facilities, and site roadways open to public travel.

The FHWA's MUTCD Team has compiled information on which States have adopted the national MUTCD, the National MUTCD with a State supplement, or a State MUTCD for the 2009 Edition of the MUTCD, as shown on the map below.
